It’s day two of our Armed Forces Day countdown, and today our focus is on the Air National Guard. Many people don’t realize that the Air Force wasn’t actually created until two years after World War II when President Harry S. Truman signed the National Security Act of 1947. Prior to this act, the Air Force was a part of the U.S. Army. This separation was a huge accomplishment for the Air Force, as it clearly acknowledged the significance and necessity of their role in our nation’s defense system. Today over 300,000 men and women serve in the U.S. Air Force.
