Yesterday, Event Marketer announced the winners of the 2013 Ex Awards, the largest recognition program for event marketing professionals. This year, more than 800 entries competed for these coveted awards, and in the end, Coca-Cola Co. walked away with the Grand Ex Award for their work with the 2012 Summer Olympics.
This is not surprising considering all of the elements that went in to creating this campaign. Starting with live crowdsourcing, social media amplification and demonstrating one of the most extraordinary examples of sports and entertainment fusion, this campaign seamlessly incorporated many of the elements that have made many marketing campaigns a success. I’m sure the fact that it was the Olympics helped, but that should take nothing away from the amazing job that Coke and the agency they worked with, ignition, did.
